Discover Water Features
Water features in gardening are nothing new. Dating back as far as the Ancient Egyptians, irrigating gardens was a necessity. Irrigation soon tranformed into storage ponds, and ultimately to elements of beauty to bring pleasure to owners. Kings not only had elaborate ponds, but even lakes that became their own paradise.
Dating back to the early days in Europe, water features served a different purpose. The typical incarnation of a water feature was that of a fountain. A fountain with its architectural lines and dancing waters were a way of saying, “I have control over nature.” Water has always been a symbol of nature; of life itself, because it is essential for the maintenance of life. We built fountains because we were surrounded by nature. Nature scared us.
Water has always been a symbol of nature...
Today, we have less interaction with nature and we feel the void created by its absence. Fountains have become passe’. Instead, we embrace nature by welcoming it into our backyards with a well designed water feature that celebrates our relationship with nature.
Vought Water Gardens will not only design and build a paradise, but will create a healthy, low-maintenance, ecosystem that can add value to your home and to your life.
Why Consider a Water Feature?
Installing a water feature is the definitive way to get the most impact out of your landscape investment. And it is an investment. Meaning you get a return on the money you've spent. A recent survey concluded that the impact to your property value exceeds the initial investment in the water feature itself. Maybe that's why another survey ranked ponds as the number one thing people want to add to their home.
From the practical side, a water feature requires less maintenance than the same square footage of grass. It even requires less water than the same size area of lawn!
But no one puts in a water garden because they are practical! You put in a pond because you have always wanted one. You put in a pond because it reminds you of some place you have been. You put in one to attract birds and other wild life. Once you have one, you will never be without one.

Choosing a Water Feature
Our water features range in size from 4'x6' feet to over four acres. No matter what size or what budget, we can design and build a water feature that fits your life.
A water feature that is at least 4x6 would be suitable for fish and plants. If space is a premium on your property or you simply don’t care for fish, a waterfall and stream without a pond might just be the thing for you. Most of our customers have goldfish and koi in their ponds and all of them enjoy the fish more than they thought they would initially. Some folks want a meandering mountain stream with a small pool; others want to turn their yard into lake front property. And some want both!
The success we have had with bog filtration and the recent popularity of the infinity edge swimming pool has inspired us to create the negative edge pond! This marries the technology of low maintenance pondkeeping with the seamless beauty of nature re-created!
