We are a different kind of water feature company. Established in 1993, we are dedicated to preserving and protecting our most precious natural resource: water. Our approach is simple. Do everything in an environmentally responsible manner. First of all, we build beautifully simple water features that are simply beautiful. They work with Mother Nature instead of against her. By providing the right balance of plants, fish and beneficial bacteria, we develop an ecosystem that contributes to and restores the greater ecosystem community. They attract wildlife and provide key elements for the habitat of the creatures that contribute to the overall health of our environment. They don’t use harsh chemicals in their maintenance. We search out the most beautiful rocks, boulders and gravel that contribute to the ease of maintenance of your feature without harming the environment from where they come. We ensure that all our rock vendor- partners harvest rocks from an environmentally responsible source. They secure all necessary permits and make sure that areas down stream from their rock collection sources remain healthy. Our rocks are referred to as Journey Stones. We are the only company in the area that uses them. They have demonstrated some glacial activity or have tumbled down a stream which adds to their rich character. We protect them during storage to promote rich formations of lichen and moss. They are simply beautiful. The terrestrial and aquatic landscape plants we employ are from certified nurseries. We use native plants, non invasive species and drought tolerant plants whenever possible to make caring for them easier. They also provide habitat (food and shelter) for more wildlife. We will perform an irrigation audit and make the changes necessary to conserve water. The plastic and metal components our manufacturers use are made in the most environmentally sound way also. They employ recycled material in their construction. The pumps we select use the least amount of electricity possible. The LEDs we use in the low volt lights are rated to last 40,000 hours. This not only lowers their maintenance requirements, it keeps the landfill from being filled by burned out bulbs. It also substantially lowers your utility bill. Every kilowatt saved reduces the demands of hydro-electric plants by 21 gallons. In keeping with our philosophy of renewal and sustainability, we have an environmental education program called Ponds For Kids where we partner with the Alabama Wildlife Federation to establish aquatic studies areas in school yards. Each pond is accompanied by its own curriculum. Each ecosystem pond we build gives us the opportunity to shape young minds towards environmental responsibility. We also take other opportunities to educate the community about conservation.¬¬¬ We participate in the Stormwater Management Authority’s recertification course each year. We teach the community education classes for he Decatur City Schools regarding topics related to water conservation and water gardening. We also make ourselves available for garden clubs and civic groups.
Our most exciting way of manifesting a sustainable approach to water features is Rain Water Harvesting. We can capture rain water to use in our ponds, waterfalls and bubbling fountainscapes so no tap water is necessary. Further, we can oversize these basins to capture enough rain water to use in irrigating your landscape. For this, and other reasons, the EPA has recognized us as a WaterSense™ partner. We are also accredited by the American Rainwater Catchment Systems Association and Certified by Aquascape, the Stormwater Management Authority, the Irrigation Association and Firestone Specialty products. We also mentor other contractors and water garden professionals through the Water Garden Excellence program.
